Privacy policy
Plain description of every category of data the site handles, including advertising cookies.
1. Audience measurement
We measure traffic in two ways. A first-party counter records page views, approximate country derived from the network connection, device type, referring site, interface language and session duration. It sets no cookie, stores no identifier beyond the browser session, and honours Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. We also use Google Analytics 4, which does set cookies and is subject to your consent choice.
2. Advertising
This site displays advertising served by Google and its partners. To do this, Google and its partners may set and read cookies on your device, and may use device and usage data to select and measure advertisements, including personalised advertisements where you have consented.
You can review how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and change your advertising settings at adssettings.google.com.
Where you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, advertising and analytics cookies are set only after you consent through the consent banner. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time using the Manage preferences link in the footer of every page.
3. E-mail alerts
If you subscribe to strike alerts or the daily briefing, we store your e-mail address, the country you select, and your subscription date. These are used solely to send the messages you asked for. Delivery is handled by Brevo (Sendinblue), acting as processor. Every message carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes the address from the sending list.
4. Citizen reports
If you submit an observed event, we store the coordinates you provide, your description, and a timestamp. We do not store your IP address with the report and do not ask for your identity. Submissions are published in aggregate form and are not attributed to a person.
5. Legal bases
- Consent — advertising and analytics cookies, e-mail subscriptions.
- Legitimate interest — cookieless audience measurement, security and abuse prevention, in a form that does not identify individuals.
6. Retention
- Cookieless audience data: approximately 90 days, in aggregate.
- Subscriber addresses: until you unsubscribe, then removed from the active list.
- Citizen reports: retained as part of the public event record.
- Google cookies: governed by Google's own retention terms, linked above.
7. Recipients and international transfers
Data is processed by our infrastructure providers (static hosting and content delivery), by Google for advertising and analytics, and by Brevo for e-mail delivery. Some of these providers operate outside the European Economic Area; transfers rely on the safeguards those providers publish, principally the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
8. Your rights
Where the GDPR applies you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interest. Write to privacy@globalconflictawareness.com. We answer within one month. You may also lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.
9. Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
10. Changes
Material changes to this policy are reflected in the date below. Continued use after a change indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
