What the service is, what it is not, and what you may not do with it.
1. Purpose of the service
Global Conflict Awareness provides an informational overview of publicly reported conflict events. It is offered free of charge, without registration, and on an "as is" basis. Using the site means accepting these terms.
2. Nature and limits of the data — read this before relying on anything
All content derives from open sources that we do not verify individually. Events are extracted, classified, geolocated and translated automatically. As a consequence:
- Any event may be inaccurate, incomplete, duplicated, mislocated, misattributed or entirely erroneous.
- Absence of an event does not indicate that nothing happened; it may mean nothing was publicly reported.
- Coordinates are indicative and derived from place names in reporting. They are not survey-grade and are frequently approximate.
- Side attribution reflects who is reported to have acted. It is not a finding of responsibility, legal or otherwise.
- Machine translation may distort meaning, particularly for named entities and military terminology.
3. Prohibited uses
You may not use this service:
- for operational, tactical or targeting purposes of any kind;
- to make decisions affecting the safety of persons without independent verification;
- to harass, endanger or identify individuals;
- to republish the data as if it were verified fact, or without attribution;
- in any manner contrary to applicable law.
4. Third-party content
Headlines and short excerpts remain the property of their publishers and are displayed under attribution with a link to the original. We do not endorse third-party content and are not responsible for it. Rights holders may request changes through the copyright procedure.
5. Availability
We do not guarantee continuity, availability or absence of error. The service may be interrupted, modified or discontinued without notice.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any direct or indirect loss arising from use of, or reliance on, this service — including decisions taken on the basis of published content. You use the service at your own risk.
7. Advertising
The site carries third-party advertising. We do not control which advertisements are shown and are not responsible for advertisers' content or practices. See the Privacy policy.
8. Intellectual property
The interface, maps, structured data layer, written analysis and methodology are ours. Source headlines and excerpts belong to their publishers. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, tiles © CARTO.
9. Changes and governing law
These terms may be amended; the current version is the one published here. They are governed by French law, and the courts of France have jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rules applying in your country of residence.
