Where the material comes from, how it is credited, and how much of it is ever displayed.
Principles
Three rules govern every item that reaches the map:
- Attribution is always visible. The name of the originating outlet or channel appears with the item, in plain text.
- Reproduction is capped. Only a short excerpt is displayed, never a full article and never the full feed payload. The remainder is used internally for classification and is not published.
- The link goes back to the source. Every item carries an outbound link to the original publication. Readers are sent to the publisher, not kept away from them.
Source categories
Each theatre combines several categories, chosen so that no single perspective dominates:
- International wire and broadsheet outlets — broad coverage, slower, high editorial standards.
- Regional outlets of the theatre — faster and more granular, with their own alignment, which is accounted for in side attribution.
- Outlets aligned with each camp — deliberately included on both sides. Reading only one camp's media produces a distorted map.
- Public OSINT channels — often fastest, least edited, treated as requiring corroboration.

Counts are distinct sources observed in the most recent event sample, measured on 2026-09-13:

Reproduction limits
Excerpts are hard-capped and cut on a word boundary. Images from source feeds are not reproduced: photographs carried by news feeds are generally agency-owned and are not ours to publish. Media logos are not reproduced either — outlets are credited by name in text, which is the lawful and honest way to attribute.
